Eligibility : 1. M. Tech./ M.E. in relevant discipline with at least 6.5 CGPA or 60 percent marks in aggregate in the M.E./ M. Tech. level from a recognized technical institute or university. 2. B. Tech/ B.E./ MCA in relevant discipline with at least 7.0 CGPA or 65 percent marks in aggregate from a recognized technical institute or university. 3. M. Sc./ MBA/ PGDBM/ PGDM in relevant discipline with at least 6.5 CGPA or 60 percent marks or equivalent in aggregate from a recognized institute or university. 4. ICWAI/ CA/ PGDM from IIMs without any restriction with respect to marks. 5. The minimum CGPA/marks shall be relaxed by 0.5 CGPA or 5 percent in case of candidates belonging to the SC/ST categories. 6. Qualifying in GATE (above cut-off marks) is mandatory for candidates with graduate degree in professional courses and not having M. Tech./ M.E. degree. 7. Qualifying in NET is mandatory for post graduate candidates in basic sciences. Good academic career is desirable and mere eligibility may not ensure a call for admission test and/or viva voce. A screening of applications will be made and short-listed candidates will be called for admission test.
Financial Support : Scholarship as per the present MHRD norms is available to all Full-time Institute PhD Research Scholars, depending on qualification.
Selection : A written test will be held in the concerned department followed by a screening and interview.
A total of around 30 seats are available for selection. However, the number may vary depending on the vacancy. The decision of PhD Admission Committee of the Institute will be final in all matters related to admission to PhD programme.
How to apply
Application in prescribed format must reach the Dean (Research & Consultancy), PG & Research Cell, Academic Section, National Institute Technology Durgapur, Durgapur 713 209, West Bengal, India on or before03.01.2012. The envelope containing the application should be super scribed “Application for full-time Ph.D.Programme (2011-12) in Department of _____________”. No application fee is needed. The completed application must accompany the following documents: i) Attested copy of GATE/ NET score card (both sides) with greater than qualifying cut-off marks, if applicable. ii) Attested copy of marks sheet / Grade card of the standard X, XI and other university examinations. If the marks-sheet of the final examination is not available, the marks-sheets of the previous semesters should be submitted. iii) Attested copy of proof of date of birth. iv) Attested copy of community certificate in the case of SC/ST candidates from a competent authority (not below the rank of a Tahsildar), if applicable. v) Attested copy of recent community certificate in case of OBC candidates from a competent authority (not below the rank of a Tahsildar) indicating the status regarding creamy layer, if applicable. An application without the copies of the required documents is liable to be rejected.
